Common questions
How much money could my business save?
The average cost of producing commercial solar PV energy is 5p per kWh. Currently, businesses pay between 11p and 15p for the same amount of energy from their suppliers. Once you switch to solar or wind power, your business can start saving £100s or even £1000s per year on rising energy bills.
How much does it cost to install?
Of course this varies hugely depending on the size of your business and the space you have available. With the current focus on green energy, there are lots of funding options and government schemes to help your business make the switch. Get in touch with the Offgrid Western team to talk through your business needs and what funding you might be able to access.
As a business, can I still sell excess energy back to the National Grid?
Absolutely. Businesses using solar and wind power are eligible to join the SEG scheme allowing the sale of surplus energy back to the National Grid.
Do I need planning permission?
Most rooftop solar panel installations on commercial premises do not need planning permission, provided the total generation capacity does not exceed 1 megawatt. As always, some rules and regulations apply and it’s best to check with your local authority before starting any work.
What if my office is in the shade?
Whilst a south facing, unshaded office roof is the ideal option for generating the most energy, there are other solutions if your business sits in a shady spot. You can install ground based solar panels or wind turbines depending on the space you have available and your energy requirements.
